DeKalb County Election Commission

The DeKalb County Election Commission is governed by five commissioners who are appointed by the State Election Commission for two year terms. The commissioners appoint and work closely with the Administrator of Elections.

ATTENTION: SMITHVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VOTERS

Voters in precint 5-2, who are assigned to vote at Smithville Elementary School, are notified that voting will take place in the Cafeteria on Thursday, August 7th instead of the Gymnasium due to excessive heat. Voting hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7. Smithville Elementary is located at 321 E. Bryant Street in Smithville. After entering the main door, turn down the first hall to the right to enter the cafeteria.

ELECTION DAY, AUGUST 7, 2008 THE POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 8:00 A.M. UNTIL 7:00 P.M.

All polling locations will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

If you do not know where your election day polling place is, it is printed on your voter registration card, or call 597-4146.

Please take identification with you when you go to vote.

2008 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS


DOWELLTOWN MUNICIPAL ELECTION will be held August 7, 2008
Offices on the Ballot: Mayor and 2 Alderman
First Day to pick up a petition: January 16, 2008
Qualifying deadline: April 3, 2008 at 12 noon
Last day to register: July 8, 2008
Charter allows property rights voting, proof of ownership must be provided to the Election Commission office by the July 8 deadline along with registration form.
Early voting: July 18--August 2, 2008, voting hours 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. every day except Thursday. Thursday hours are from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

LIBERTY MUNICIPAL ELECTION will be held August 7, 2008
Offices on the Ballot: 3 Aldermen
First day to pick up a petition: January 16, 2008
Qualifying deadline: April 3, 2008 at 12 noon.
Last day to Register: July 8, 2008
Charter allows property rights voting, proof of ownership must be provided to the Election Commission office by the July 8, 2008 deadline, along with a registration form.
Early Voting: July 18--August 2, 2008, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. everyday except Thursday. Thursday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The DeKalb County Election Commission is responsible for conducting all federal, state and municipal elections in the county. All elections are held in compliance with State and Federal election laws. Other responsibilities include voter registration, candidate qualification, candidate petitions, legal notices, campaign financial record maintenance, ballot preparation, poll worker training, and voting machine maintenance.

EARLY VOTING

There will be a period of Early Voting before every election. There are no special requirements to vote early, every registered voter is entitled to Early Vote. All Early Voting is done at the Election Commission office. Please see the Election Calendar for specific dates.

All early voting is in the Basement Courtroom, DeKalb County Courthouse, Public Square, Smithville. All registered voters are eligible to vote early. For specific dates and times, please see the Election Calendar.

ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY

We are working to make each polling place handicapped accessible. If you have a question about a particular polling place, or wish to report a problem with accessibility, please call 615-597-4146.

If your polling place is inaccessible, you have the right to vote at the election commission office on Election Day. Written notice of your intent is required 10 days before the first election you vote in.
